Lansford doesn’t appoint secretary, office is closed

Lansford’s borough offices will be closed until further notice, as council failed to reappoint a secretary/treasurer during their reorganization meeting.

Secretary/treasurer Wendy Butrie walked out of Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting after a motion to reappoint her to the post died for a lack of a second.

Her husband, newly-seated Councilman Joseph Butrie, attempted to appoint her, but was told that it was a conflict and he rescinded the motion.

Then, incoming Councilman Jack Soberick moved to reappoint her, but his motion failed to obtain a second and died.

Soberick said it was his first meeting, and he didn’t know the dynamic as to why this was happening, but noted that it was not an ideal time as the borough would be left without a secretary. Council President Bruce Markovich said he understood that. The assistant secretary position is vacant.

With no decision on reappointment, Wendy Butrie said she wasn’t going to finish the meeting for the borough and left, saying her lawsuit would be the next one.

The borough office will not be open without a secretary, council members said, and people can leave any payments in the drop box outside.

Council plans to meet in executive session Wednesday at 5 p.m. for personnel. Council hopes to have someone in place by next week on a limited basis, Markovich said Wednesday morning.
