Township has open seat for supervisor

Tuesday’s meeting was the last Lower Towamensing Township Supervisors meeting for Brent Green, the current board chairman. He did not run for re-election.

There were two seats available at the election in November. One is for a six-year term and the other is for a four-year term.

Jay Mullikin ran unopposed in both categories after winning as the write-in candidate with the most votes during the primary election in May. He went on to win both in the general election in November, but he can only serve one of the terms.

Current Supervisor Mike Takerer had the most write-in votes for both seats in November. The other names listed as write-ins included Steve Meining, Craig Merluzzi, Brent Green, Ray Bossard, Brooke Klotz, Andrew Roberts and Brian Keenly.

Takerer or any resident of Lower Towamensing can apply for the open seat.

Takerer was appointed to the board of supervisors in April of 2022 to fill the seat vacated by Terry Kuehner. Takerer was one of three people considered for the position. The other two were Jay Mullikin and Dwight Hawk.

Anyone who would like to be considered for the open seat on the board of supervisors should contact the township office for more information.

Green said if they receive applications this month, then they can appoint someone at the reorganization meeting set for 3 p.m. on Jan. 2.
