Want to give back to the community for the holidays? Here are some needs outlined by area nonprofits.

Carbon County Friends Of Animals

Carbon County Friends of Animals is regularly seeking the items for the cat shelter:

Items needed range from cleaning supplies to cat food to maintenance supplies. Please drop off all donations at the shelter facility between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If items need to be picked up, contact the shelter for assistance at 570-325-9400.

Dietrich-Luhman

American Legion Post 360, Weatherly

The Dietrich-Luhman American Legion Post 360 and Ladies Auxiliary are in need of a new upright freezer.

This would help with the electrical bill and storing capacity.

Citizens Fire Company #1 of Weatherly is looking for assistance in replacing a 40-plus-year-old emergency generator.

MapleShade Meadows

MapleShade Meadows is seeking Christmas cards for its 75 residents.

Along with cards, the center is always grateful to receive any donations, such as socks, personal hygiene products, slippers, briefs, pajamas, puzzles, word search books, etc.

Toy donations

The Lutheran Church of St. John in the Heights in Jim Thorpe, along with Mason’s Cold Beer stores in Jim Thorpe and Lehighton and with a Thrivent Action Team, have launched a toy collection to benefit the Head Start programs in the area.

Toys will be collected until Dec. 10 and then taken to the regional Head Start office for distribution before Christmas. Toys can be dropped off at Mason’s Cold Beer locations during business hours.

Kids for the Community Coat Drive

Kids for the Community in Palmerton is hosting its fourth annual coat drive through the winter season.

They are looking for gently used, weather proof, winter coats and winter necessities.

Socks for Seniors

The Socks for Seniors Project is in full swing once again for our 12th year. Mary Ann Dulaney and daughter, Jessica Kutza, coordinators for the project, with the assistance of area businesses and locations are collecting donations of warm socks and other items to distribute to local nursing home and rehab center residents for the holiday season.

In addition to donations of new, unwrapped items can be dropped off at the following locations: Tommy’s Restaurant, Coaldale; Cynthia’s Cynful Styles, Lansford; Hiles Brothers, Summit Hill; Mauch Chunk 5 & 10, Jim Thorpe; Beacon 443 Lehighton; Dr. Puddu’s office, M&S Hardware, Tamaqua.

The deadline is Dec. 10. Anyone with questions or any nursing center in need of gifts can contact Dulaney at 570-645-4228 or madula@ptd.net.
