Bikers shift gears to benefit Tamaqua fire co.

Motorcyclists supported the American Hose Company in Tamaqua in a big way on Sunday.

The 22nd annual motorcycle run was held with more than 200 cyclists participating.

Mike Chickilly, a member of the fire company, said he was pleased with the turnout, which is a fundraiser for the fire company.

“I think we’re having a great day and a great turnout,” he said. “We’re happy to have it back after COVID.”

The bike run was about 75 miles through Rush Township, Walker Township, into Frackville, toward Berwick and then back to the fire company.

Chickilly said he didn’t have an official count of the number of motorcyclists but estimated it to be 200 to 300 riders.

The event started with an American Hose Company pumper leading the pack on Mauch Chunk Street to the Pine Street intersection. Then the bikers were on their own, following a predetermined route.

The run was accompanied by a food truck festival and other activities.
