Flash flood watch remains in effect; 1 to 2 inches of rain expected

The National Weather Service says flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible throughout the region. Send your flooding photos to tneditor@tnonline.com.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

High atmospheric moisture content combined with an approaching front through Sunday will result in numerous showers and thunderstorms capable of heavy rainfall.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are forecast, with localized amounts of 3 to 5 inches possible in some areas where thunderstorms are more persistent.

Northampton County Emergency Management posted it is rapidly responding to severe flashing flooding in the Slate Belt with a current particular emphasis on Lower Mount Bethel Township.

According to the post, numerous roads are flooded there, and impassable.

Northampton County Emergency Management asks that you drive with extreme caution today, and that you do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
