Carbon needs volunteers for US’s birthday bash

Carbon County is again looking for a volunteer to represent the county in the planning of America’s 250th birthday celebration.

On Thursday, the board of commissioners accepted the resignation of Sara Ruch as the county’s representative to the America250PA program, effective June 28. Ruch is the second volunteer who has stepped down from the position. She had replaced James Logue Jr. in April 2022.

America250PA is a state group created by the Legislature that aims to plan and coordinate the upcoming semiquiencentennial for the nation in 2026. Planning for the event began in 2021.

Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the county is again looking for someone to take the lead in this role.

Letters of interest should be sent to the Carbon County Administration Building, c/o the county commissioners.

The board said that anyone who submitted letters of interest should again send in their letters if they are still interested.

The person selected would be responsible for attending statewide meetings and help coordinate events on local, state and federal levels to celebrate the milestone.

Nothstein suggested after a new representative is selected, maybe a committee could be formed to help that person because the amount of work involved is extensive.

He said that the person should have experience in organizing large scale events, a people person and has a lot of free time.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner added that someone who has knowledge of the history of Carbon County would also be beneficial.
