Sports complex in Nesquehoning plans fall opening

A new sports complex in Nesquehoning is taking shape.

On Monday, officials from the Narrow Valley Sportsplex announced on its new Facebook page that the first phase of the project is expected to open this fall.

“Our goal for Narrow Valley Sportsplex is to improve the overall health and economic vitality of our area,” the post said.

Phase one includes an 8,000-square-foot, indoor facility with seven batting cages, Hittrax, and turf area that can be used for all sports training.

The sportsplex will be located in the former main building of KME, at the intersection of routes 209 and 54.

The building, as well as all buildings on the south side of Route 54, were purchased last year by One Industrial Holdings LLC after REV Group decided to close the firetruck plant and move its operations.

The company, owned by Ric and Kathy (Kovatch) Reaman, as well as Jeff Mazza, plan to create a multiuse complex for both recreation and business.

Plants 3 and 4 are currently leased by Bulldog Fire and Emergency Apparatus, which provides maintenance services on firetrucks. It also has brought back several former KME employees who helped construct firetrucks at the plant.

Additional phases for the site are in the works, including additional recreational space.
