NLHS was on lockdown Monday after 2 bullets found in bathroom

Northern Lehigh High School was on lockdown for a time Monday after two bullets were found inside a bathroom trash can.

Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link said the district released information to parents/guardians and employees in the wake of the high school’s administrative lockdown following the discovery Monday morning.

“A student reported this to an administrator,” Link said. “There was no written or posted threat discovered along with the bullets.”

Link said, “The building was placed into an administrative lockdown so an investigation could be conducted with the assistance of our school district police department. During this time, visitors were not allowed into the school, and students were not allowed to leave.”

He said that district administration worked with Lehigh Career and Technical Institute administration to clear the district’s students arriving at LCTI.

Link said that the Slatington Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police were notified and provided on-site support at the high school.

“Each person that entered the bathroom from the start of the school day until the time the bullets were discovered was searched by administration in the presence of district police, as were their belongings and locker,” he said. “No other contraband was found.”

Additionally, Link said the Lehigh Valley International Airport Police Department and PA State Police used dogs trained to detect explosives, including bullets, to search the high school building and did not detect any additional bullets or other contraband.

“I would like to thank our students and staff for their cooperation during the lockdown and investigation,” he said. “I would like to thank the parents and other stakeholders for their cooperation.

“Also, Northern Lehigh School District appreciates the quick response and support of the Slatington Police Department, PA State Police, and LVIA Police Department. If identified, the individual who placed the bullets in the trash can will be disciplined and prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.”
