South Schuylkill Garden club events

Jack Jones of JJ’s Wood Crafts will feature his one-of-a-kind birdhouse creations at the May 16, meeting of the South Schuylkill Garden Club at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the United Church of Christ on Route 61, next to the PSU Schuylkill Haven Campus.

Each birdhouse is unique: some from 1800s barn wood, some from weathered or distressed wood. All are designed to accommodate the living habits of birds.

He will educate on the birds and his process as well as involve his audience with identifying hardware. He wholesales his products to large retailers and sells them at juried craft shows.

Come check out his distinctive, recycled material, variations of grain, wood knots and hardware on birdhouses.

The club has also moved its annual plant sale, sponsored by the South Schuylkill Garden Club, to the second Saturday, May 13, at the Schuylkill Haven Senior Center on Haven Street.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. No early birds.

The selection of plants includes perennials, annuals, herbs, shrubs, natives, heirlooms, succulents, sun loving and shade loving plants, small trees and even house plants. Many plants are sourced from Schuylkill County gardens and especially hardy.

Prices are hard to beat and qualified gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice for successful outcomes.
