Local roundup: Results from April 26

The Lehighton and Palmerton baseball teams both secured places in the upcoming District 11 playoffs with wins on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Marian rolled to a win over Weatherly in baseball action.

BASEBALL

Pottsville-Lehighton

Lehighton punched its ticket to the District 11 playoffs with a commanding 14-2 Schuylkill League win over Pottsville.

Aiden Rarick sparked the Indians (9-6 overall; 6-3 SL) with two triples, a single, two runs scored and three RBIs. Carter Birnbaum finished with two singles, a run scored and an RBI for the Tribe, who are currently fourth in the Class 4A standings.

Roman DiRenzo paced the Tide (1-12; 1-8) with a single, double and an RBI.

Marian cruised to a 20-4 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Chris Chambers led the way for the Colts (6-7 overall; 4-5 SL), finishing with two singles, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Lachlan Segedy (single, triple, two RBIs), Joey Walko (two singles, four runs scored) and Jake Bobish (two singles, two runs scored, RBI, walk) all had big days at the plate for the winners.

Ian McLaurin had four singles for the Wreckers (3-12; 1-8).

Palisades-Palmerton

Palmerton clinched a spot in the District 11 playoffs with a 13-10 Colonial League victory over Palisades.

After losing a seven-run lead to the Pirates – who erupted for a 10-run fifth inning – the Bombers used a four-run sixth to secure their place in the postseason, and currently sit third in the Class 3A standings.

Trey Sterling sparked the Bombers (10-5 overall; 8-5 CL) with a pair of doubles, a single, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Jacob Grammes (two singles, two runs scored, RBI) and Nate Stroup (two singles, two RBIs) also added multiple hits.

Wyatt Harrar led the Pirates (5-10; 4-9), as he recorded a single, a run scored, three RBIs and three walks.

Lourdes-Jim Thorpe

Lourdes Regional needed only five innings to record a 17-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Kamryn Kotzo led the way for the Red Raiders (4-5 SL), as she was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. She finished with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Oleksa McAndrew paced the Olympians (1-13-1 overall; 0-10 SL) with a single and a run scored, while Amanda Goodchild and Megan Rohrman both added a pair of hits.

Pottsville-Lehighton

Pottsville came away with a 10-5 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

A four-run second inning helped the Indians (6-9 overall; 3-7 SL) take a 4-2 lead, but the Tide responded with seven runs in the top of the third.

Lily Heinbach paced the Tide (7-7; 6-4), as she led six players with multiple hits with two singles, a run scored and three RBIs.

The Indians’ 6-7-8 hitters led the way, as Mia Snyder (two singles, RBI), Mylah Delgado (two singles, double, run scored) and Mallory Valentine (single, double, a run scored, RBI, walk) all finished with multiple hits.

Palisades-Palmerton

Sydney Frantz was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, but Palmerton dropped a 3-2 setback to visiting Palisades.

Frantz connected for a single, double and a triple for the Bombers (10-6 overall; 8-5 CL), while Hailey Barry chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

The Pirates (14-1; 12-1) got a strong pitching performance from Karlye Teman, who tossed a two-hitter and struck out 16.
