Allentown man had stolen gun, police say

An Allentown man was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $50,000 cash bail after he found with a stolen weapon during a traffic stop by Tamaqua police.

According to police, officers were on patrol at 1:53 p.m. April 5 and noticed a car with window tint traveling south on Route 309.

Officers stopped the car, which was driven by Emmanuel DeJesus-Ramos, 29. Officers asked DeJesus for his information but he said he did not have a valid driver’s license.

DeJesus told police that he was working on the vehicle he was driving. Officers said they asked DeJesus whether there was anything illegal in the vehicle, and he said “yes.” Police asked again and he said, “no.” Asked for permission to search the vehicle, police said DeJesus gave his consent.

Police said they founded a loaded Ruger LCR 357 magnum in the center console, which they determined to be stolen.

The search also turned up 5 .38 special rounds in the passenger cup holder; a 9 mm round in the center console; a Pennsylvania license plate in the trunk, and a pair of black Jordan sneakers with the inside sole sticker still intact.

The license plate came back to a man who lives in Bethlehem, police said.

DeJesus was read his Miranda rights in English and Spanish.

Police said they then asked DeJesus about the sneakers, he said he did not speak English and they ended the interview.

The vehicle was impounded.

DeJesus was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, Shenandoah, on charges of receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded weapon, driving without a license, and obstruction of side and rear windows.
