March 22, 1951 - Betty Mullen is welcomed by hundreds of students and citizens from Lehighton and Weissport after arriving at the Lehigh Valley Terminal in Lehighton. Mullen is greeted by the Lehighton Boys Band, along with cheerleaders and majorettes upon coming home from Purdue University for Easter break. Mullen, a Lehighton graduate who gained international fame for her swimming feats at Purdue and as a member of the United States team at the Pan-American games, is escorted to the Lehighton Municipal Building where she is presented with a gold key to both Lehighton and Weissport.
