Supervisors deal with Towamensing business

The Towamensing Township supervisors meeting began with an open forum Thursday.

Allison Chase, president of Towamensing Soccer Club, reported that there are nearly 160 players this season, with the youngest division being 3- and 4-year-olds.

The plan is to hold the older kids’ games at the Beltzville Park field because the park field cannot accommodate all the games. A $2,000 “Grow the Game” grant was received which may be used for nets.

A motion passed for final conditional approval for a reverse subdivision waiver for Charlene and Matthew Behney. Once the final invoice is ready all necessary signatures will be received.

Crown Builders Pa. Minor Subdivision in Lakeview Estates final conditional approval was tabled as revised plans are needed.

In old business, a motion passed to put a contractor’s bid out for waste disposal.

New business included review an ordinance at the request of the tax collector, Susan Marques, who suggested fees for tax certification are raised to $20 and duplicates to $10, which was approved.

The Historical Society report noted that so far $1,000 was donated for the Greenzweig school house. Enough vinyl siding was donated for the school house, but manpower is needed to install it.

Further donations and planning to preserve the school will continue, with 90 days from January to demonstrate that it can get done.

A motion passed that once the roadmaster gets within 10% to 20% of the budget the paving project can be put out for bid. Roads will be determined.

The fire department reported 8 calls in February. Fire personnel were trained in a new vehicle tech class and on March 25 will attend a basic wild and firefighter class, followed by hands-on training.

The next supervisors meeting is April 6.
