Schuylkill County sentencings

Schuylkill County judges recently sentenced three men to state prison.

Erik C. Speece, 37, of Lansford, was charged by Tamaqua Police Officer Christopher J. Cordes with driving under the influence, first offense; driving under the influence of a controlled substance (combination alcohol/drugs), first offense, and driving under the influence, highest rate of alcohol, first offense on March 16, 2022.

Speece pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol. The remaining charges were dropped.

Judge Charles M. Miller sentenced Speece to serve 72 hours to 6 months in jail, to be served at the same time as a sentence in Carbon County, with immediate parole.

Miller also fined Speece $1,000 and ordered him to surrender his license for 12 months. He also ordered him to submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee and to pay a total of $225 in other fees.

Speece also must successfully complete Alcohol Highway Safety School; continue mental health treatment, and serve 10 hours of community service.

Timothy Manuel Morales Sr., 51, of Coaldale, was charged by Tamaqua Police Officer Karl L. Harig with two counts of aggravated assault, five counts of simple assault, and disorderly conduct on July 26, 2021.

Judge Christina E. Hale sentenced him to 9 to 23 months in jail; to submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee; and to pay $200 in fees on one charge of simple assault.

She ordered him to serve the same jail time, concurrently, on a second simple assault charge, and fined him $25 and ordered him to pay a total of $77 in fees on the disorderly conduct charge.

The remaining charges were dropped.

John E. Bartenope, 45, of Palmerton, was charged by Frackville State Trooper Peter K. Conforti with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance on June 28, 2020.

Judge Hale sentenced him to pay $113 in restitution to the Bethlehem Crime Lab and $15 to Walmart; submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee; and serve one to two years in state prison on the theft charge.

Hale also sentenced Bartenope to serve 6 to 24 months in state prison, to be served at the same time, on the possession charge.
