Carbon ready for election turnout

Carbon County is gearing up for a big turnout at the polls next Tuesday.

Lisa Dart, director of the election bureau, said her office is preparing for “much larger” turnout than the normal General Election.

The ballot includes races for governor, state representatives and U.S. House and Senate seats.

To better prepare, the Carbon County Election Board approved a number of appointments to fill vacant poll worker positions, as well as give raises to those working the polls on Nov. 8. The county also hosted poll worker training sessions.

The board also approved the voter registration totals of eligible voters for the upcoming election. This year, approximately 44,000 Carbon County residents are registered to cast their votes.

Dart also said her office has received and processed a comparable number of mail-in ballots requests as the 2020 primary.

During that election, 6,677 mail-in ballots were requested. As of Monday, 5,400 mail-in ballot applications were received.

Historically, between 45 and 55 percent of the eligible voters cast their ballots during General Elections in years the governor race is held.

Last week, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich also reminded voters that when going to the polls, the ballot is two-sided so voters should look at the back before casting their ballot.
