Amazing Anastasinis a highlight of the fair

The Amazing Anastasini Family spans eight generations, and will be showing off their talents at the Carbon County Fair.

Performing stunts that defy gravity and require razor sharp acrobatic skills is just another day for the Anastasini Family.

“When I was 5 years old I started as a clown and I now am 57,” Giovani Anastasini said.

Even though he started as a clown he had to get up early and train with the family to learn the skills he has used for the last 52 years.

“Yeah, my first time actually going in the ring I did a little funny thing, and I started doing gymnastics and practicing and then I did acrobatic acts with my brother,” he said.

“I’ve done all kinds of stuff. I’ve worked with the Ringling Brothers and I did the cannonball.”

When asked if he ever got tired of traveling and always being on the road, he paused a moment, then replied, “I’m not gonna lie to you, I get tired traveling, but at the same time, we enjoy it very much. I can’t imagine doing anything else,” Anastasini said.

Sometimes, he said when they perform at theme parks they stay in the park for several days and he admits at first it’s a nice change, but after a few days the family wants to hit the road.

“You know, we want to get going. It is kind of what we are used to and it’s fun because we get to travel, we get to see different places of the country, and of the world because we have traveled everywhere and we don’t pay for it, they pay us to come there,” he said.

He mentioned they had just comeback from three weeks in Hawaii and performed for several Hawaiian fairs.

Anastasini admits he get nervous. “I think that’s a respect that you have to have, because you have to be scared or nervous or you have to respect what you’re doing.”

“If it’s something aerial like the Cannon or something dangerous, you have to have respect for it,” Anastasini said. “Because if you don’t, that’s when someone can get hurt. You know, if you take it for granted.”

If you enjoy watching daredevil acts be sure to drop in at the Carbon County Fair that runs from Aug. 8-13. They will perform free shows daily at the end of Machinery Avenue to the rear of the fairgrounds.
