York man gets 2-4 years in Lehighton man’s death

The York County man who shot and killed Lehighton resident Kyle Hagenbuch, 26, in an incident in 2020 in that county was sentenced this week.

Dasean Morris, 20, who was convicted of the charges in April, was sentenced by York County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Maria Musti Cook, to serve 2-4 years in prison on charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm without a license..

She called his actions some of the most irresponsible and reckless she had seen during her time as a judge.

“What cannot be overlooked or denied in this case is that there was a loss of life at the hands of the defendant,” Cook said, according to an article published in the York Daily Record.

In April, a York County jury delivered a guilty verdict against Morris on the above charges but found him not guilty of first degree murder and third degree murder.

Details of the shooting showed Hagenbuch was shot outside the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club clubhouse on East Clark Avenue in York City just before 7:30 p.m. on July 31, 2020. He died Aug. 2 at WellSpan York Hospital.

Published reports said the Lehighton resident was visiting York at the time, speaking with the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club about potential membership.

According to police, Morris drove up, fired a shot into the crowd and left as one of the other cyclists returned fire. Police said the details of the incident were corroborated by video footage.

At the trial, Morris maintained his innocence, saying he was not even at the shooting, the Record reported, also saying Morris cut his dreadlocks, hiding them in a drop ceiling, which according to police had gunshot residue.

Hagenbuch was a graduate of Lehighton Area High School and played on the Carbon County Savages, a local semi-professional football team.
