Police report hit-and-run crashes

State police reported on two hit-and-run crashes investigated by troopers.

• State police at Lehighton reported on May 16 at 12:56 p.m. a crash occurred at the intersection of Trachsville Hill Road and Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Franklin E. Althouse, 32, of Palmerton, was driving a 1997 Saturn ION northbound on Trachsville Hill Road while another vehicle was driven westbound on Pohopoco Drive.

At the intersection both drivers stopped for posted stop signs.

As Althouse went through the intersection his vehicle was struck by the other vehicle, whose driver pulled into the intersection. The impact caused the Saturn to rotate clockwise.

The other driver then fled the scene west on Pohopoco Drive.

Althouse was not injured and damages were termed minor to his vehicle.

• State police at Pocono said on May 17 at 4 p.m. a vehicle was being driven on the Northeast Extension of the Turnpike in Franklin Township, Carbon County, when driver began to exit the turnpike at the Mahoning Interchange.

While exiting the turnpike through lane 4 at the interchange the front passenger side of the vehicle struck the safety gate and then a light curtain.

The driver then fled the scene.
