Indians’ Hartney will play football at Delaware Valley

Lehighton High School senior Gauge Hartney will attend Delaware Valley University to continue his academic and football careers.

Hartney was a three-year starter for the Indians, playing on both the offensive and defensive line.

This past season he was named Lehighton’s Lineman of the Year. He had 49 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss. He also recovered two fumbles. Hartney’s postseason honors included Times News offensive line and defensive line all-star, and Schuylkill League North second team offensive lineman and defensive lineman. He was selected for the Schuylkill-Colonial All-Star game and the Ronald McDonald All-Star game. He was also Lehighton’s Lehigh Valley Football Scholar-Athlete nominee.

In addition to football, Hartney competed in wrestling and track at Lehighton. He was the school’s wrestling scholar-athlete nominee, and was the District 11 wrestling essay scholarship winner.

Hartney is also the vice-president of the senior class, a National Honor Society member, and a student council member.

Hartney is the son of Shawn and Dorothy Hartney. He will double major in turf management and business at Delaware Valley, an NCAA Division III school.
