Weissport Mayor Tina Hagenbuch on Monday evening introduced the borough’s new police chief, Tom Trachta, to the community following a swearing-in ceremony in the borough hall.

Trachta began his career as a housing officer in Brooklyn, New York, before being promoted to the post of a New York City police officer. He later became a detective in the organized crime unit and then was named a sergeant in charge of other detectives.

The new chief lives in Nazareth after having retired from the New York Police Department in July.
