No tax increase in East Penn

Taxes will not increase for residents in East Penn Township.

According to Supervisors’ Chairman William G. Schwab, “This is the seventh year in a row without a tax increase.”

A public hearing was held to amend the language of the Synagro Waste Management and Sludge ordinances. Minor changes included language about experienced soil testers and time frames for compliance. During the regular meeting, both ordinances passed with approved changes. Two board members, John Strockoz and Gary Kuehner, were not present.

The Berger Creek settlement was not addressed in detail at the meeting. When raised by Sarah Swartz, Schwab said there was nothing to report from the last meeting, referring to the budget and regular meeting held on Oct. 20 where the board unanimously authorized the solicitor to “withdraw citation for contempt.”

The trunk or treat held on Oct. 27 was a great success. Alice Berger praised Loretta Smith and the recreation department for “all you do.”

Smith said, “we had a lot of kids, and it was a great night. It’s safe for our children.”
