Pl. Vly. superintendent on agenda; Western Pa. candidate would be paid $170,000

Pleasant Valley School District is slated to return to an in-person meeting Thursday night just in time to vote on its next superintendent.

The agenda for Thursday’s meeting, slated to start at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, includes a recommendation to hire Dr. James Konrad under a five-year contract starting no later than Jan. 10, 2022.

Konrad is currently the superintendent at Washington School District in western Pennsylvania, where he has worked since July 2017.

If hired at Pleasant Valley, Konrad would be slated to start at $170,000 per year, according to the proposed contract. He would replace Dr. Lee Lesisko, who retired after one year on the job, and two years left on his contract, following the 2020-21 school year. Lesisko started at $155,000 when he was hired in April 2020.

Dr. Charlene Brennan is serving as Pleasant Valley’s acting superintendent for the second time.

In the Washington School District, Konrad is in the midst of a four-year contract that started in July 2020. His current contract calls for an annual salary of $136,593, and allows for future raises contingent on performance.

Prior to taking the job at Washington School District, Konrad worked as director of instructional improvements and teacher evaluations at Hamtramck Public Schools in Hamtramck, Michigan. His 14 years in public education also include stints as a teacher, special education teacher, director of special education, assistant principal and principal. While Konrad was principal at Robichaud High School in Michigan, the school was removed from the state’s priority list of failing schools.

A Bucks County native, Konrad earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and special education from Duquesne University, master’s and doctoral degrees in educational administration from Temple University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Temple.

Konrad was also a finalist for the superintendent in the Spring Grove School District in York County in early 2019.
