Nesquehoning loses two police officers

Nesquehoning officials accepted the resignations of two full-time police officers, leaving the already understaffed department with fewer people.

On Wednesday, borough council approved the resignations of officers Richard Neikam and Kyle Sabulsky, effective today.

Councilman Louis Paul asked that a letter of thanks be sent to the two for all of their hard work within the borough and wished them well on their future endeavors.

The two resignations leave the borough police force with three full-time and two part-time officers.

But two full-time officers are currently out on medical leave, leaving the borough with a three-person staff at this time.

When questioned by residents on what the borough is doing to resolve the matter, council President David Hawk said that the civil service commission is working on the hiring process and coming up with a list.

He added that Mayor Sam Kitchko is creating a schedule with the officers they have, as well as state police coverage; noting that the borough is always looking for part-time police.

To apply for the borough police department, applications are available at http://nesquehoning.org/?q=policedept.

Last month, borough council also agreed to file paperwork with the state regarding Lansford’s request to create shared police services with Nesquehoning and Summit Hill.
