Dine-in dinner

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, Kresgeville, is having an all-you-can-eat dine-in spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 1. Takeout will be available.

Bog walks set

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers guided weekly Tannersville Bog walks Wednesdays through Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.

These 2½ hour walks will be guided by an Environmental Educator from the Center who will teach attendees about the bog, a unique boreal bog for this area, owned by the Nature Conservancy. The bog is filled with bird songs and interesting insect-eating plants.

Participants will meet at the bog parking lot by 1 p.m. There is a per person cost. Exact cash or check preferred (no credit cards).

Attendees are to wear appropriate footwear for walking in the woods. Preregistration is required. Masks must be worn.

To preregister, call the center at 570-629-3061, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Support coming

Grandparents who have adopted a grandchild in need of support can attend a group to discuss everyday challenges of being a mommy again and losing those retirement years, according to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. The group will be starting in mid-September at the local library. For more information, call Susan at 570-223-4177.

Church flea market

The Women’s Group of Effort is sponsoring a flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2, at Effort UMC. Anyone interested in participating, whether a spot with a personal table or with the use of a church table can contact Joyce Aylsworth at 570-643-3334 for more information or to reserve a spot. Food and baked goods will also be for sale.

Pet blessing

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a pet blessing at 10 a.m. Oct. 2. Participants are to meet the clergy at 10 a.m. by the statue of St. Francis in the church parking lot.

A reminder also to have the pets properly leashed or in crates or cages as is appropriate.

On Oct. 3, Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will hold its blessing of pets in front of the parish hall at 1 p.m. If it is raining it will be held inside.

All animals and pets are welcome but they must be appropriately caged or leashed.

No yard sale

The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary has canceled its Oct. 3 yard sale, according to Chief Billy Tippett.

GriefShare begins

St. Peter’s UMC is again hosting GriefShare, a Christian-based program which is a bereavement support group, video based that encourages interaction among participants to help navigate the grieving process.

Contact St. Peter’s United Methodist Church office at 570-992-7311. The 13-session program is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the church located at 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg.

Volunteers needed

The Parks and Recreation Committee in Eldred Township is looking for volunteers to assist it with light maintenance, such as removing plant growth, tripping hazards etc. at the Mock Park Trails off Wes Flo Court.

For anyone who is not already familiar with those trails it is a great opportunity to discover them. Participants will be meeting at the cul-de-sac at the end of Wes Flo Court at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 3, with a rain date of Oct. 9.

Anyone who would like to help is asked to let Township Secretary Ann Velopolcek know by calling the township office at 610 381-4252, ext. 2, during regular business hours. She will ask the caller to leave a phone number, preferably one at which the caller can be notified by text if the township switches to the rain date.

It is bring your own tools time, such as rakes, clippers, etc., but no chain saws or similar power tools. Volunteers will be asked to sign a release before work begins.

Wild bird seed

Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center has scheduled its truckload wild bird seed sale from Aspen for Oct. 23.

This sale of offers the opportunity to purchase high quality bird seed at the lowest prices of the year and just in time for the winter bird feeding season.

Ordering deadline is Oct. 14. One may obtain a complete order form by calling the center at 570-629-3061, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., most Saturdays. Download the order form from www.mcconservation.org.
