Monroe commissioners OK amendment on forklift

The Monroe County Commissioners approved an amendment with the Salvation Army East Stroudsburg Corps about the recent purchase of a forklift to be used for the Salvation Army food pantry program.

The amendment will define the use and indemnification requirements regarding the use of the forklift.

“Having the forklift to use at the food pantry will really make things much easier for the pantry,” Commissioner Sharon Laverdure said.

In other food-related business, a budget adjustment report dated Aug. 26, totaling $69,300 was approved for the Emergency Food Assistance Program.

The submission of the 2020-2021 State Food Purchase Program Final Report in the amount of $239,851 was approved.

Overdose awareness

The commissioners all agreed it is important to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, and acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends, remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of a drug overdose.

“International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that the tragedy of an overdose death is preventable,” Laverdure said.

Contracts

Commissioners approved the following:

• Contract with Lifeline Systems Company to provide a personal emergency response system to agency consumers.

• A contract with Amazing Souls Home Care Inc. was executed through June 30, 2023, to provide personal care services to agency consumers.

• The approval for the Computer Capital Purchases Report dated Aug. 26, totaling $7,899.15.

The following Scouts were recognized and awarded proclamations and certificates for attaining Eagle Scout: Eric Allen Reagle, Jack Mazza and Dillon Corridor.

Laverdure said she was proud of the many Eagle Scouts who were awarded proclamations and certificates, especially since this was a difficult year and the Eagle Scouts were able to accomplish it all during this time.
