Monroe Republican women host international forum

The Monroe Council of Republican Women recently hosted “International Forum - Understanding the American Promise” at the Chestnuthill West End Park Building.

The panelists were American citizens who immigrated to the United States. Each shared their story of choosing to come here and the path that brought them to join the Republican Party.

The panel consisted of Agnes Marocchi from Kenya, East Africa; Dr. Nche Zama from Cameroon; Beata Malec from Poland; Marek Chilinski from Poland; Larry Soodeen from Trinidad and Tobago; Dulce Ridder from Honduras; Salima Kane from Senegal and Charlie Baroudi from Lebanon.

Robert Carvell from England had a conflict, so he submitted a statement.

The stories shared common experiences of suffering, loss and family sacrifice, as well expressing the powerful draw of our nation’s freedom and opportunities.

The strength of character and commitment displayed brings hope for our nation’s future. It was repeatedly stressed that the values of our Constitution and those of the Republican party are found in these citizens.

The values that uphold freedom of speech and religion, reward for hard work, the willingness to sacrifice for family and nation, and a passion to defend against the divisiveness that threatens this country. They clearly perceive the threat as they have lived in countries where they witnessed corruption, propaganda, injustice, poverty and political manipulation.

It was an evening of frank discussion, inspiring stories and a showcase of what is the best about our nation. The video of the presentation will be posted online with a link on the MCRW Facebook page.
