The recent Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors meeting was called to order 15 minutes late because the board was in executive session. The announcement was that members were interviewing a candidate for police sergeant.

Subsequently, at the meeting Supervisor Cindy Miller made a motion, which was seconded by Supervisor Janet Sheats, to have Police Chief John Henry offer the candidate the position. The candidate’s name was not released. The motion passed unanimously.

In other business, the supervisors discussed the Pennoni Associates bill from Nov. 12, 2025; Pennoni is the firm that is rewriting the ordinances and the map for the township.

Miller said, “At the planning commission meeting last night, our planners decided to take over the rest of the work. We are going back and forth for a year with Pennoni. It’s a circle. The planners feel they can do it. The ordinances are done, we can finish. Let Pennoni do the SALDO (subdivision and land development ordinance).”

Township Manager Alice Rehrig said, “They have started the SALDO. The November 2025 bill is for $9,000. They have already donated their time to the amount of $23,000.”

Sheats made a motion, which Miller seconded, to pay the firm $6,500 of the $9,000, with the remainder held until the SALDO is finished. All voted yes.

Other business

• Kristopher & Samantha Pastier were approved for Lot Line Adjustment. The property line will be moved north because it goes through a driveway. Miller made a motion for approval with a waiver regarding title report. All agreed.

• Wasko Self Storage was given extension of time for plan recording till Jan. 31, 2027, with a written report provided on Oct. 31, 2026.

• Rehrig gave the board photos of new signs for the township’s parks. “I went around and took pictures of the existing signs,” she said. “They do not match some of the ordinances. Also, the times of the parks say 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. I think it needs to be earlier.” The board agreed. The board decided hours would be dawn until 11 p.m. There will be stand-alone signs on the fences. “I will come up with one sign for all of the parks,” Rehrig said. They also discussed allowing dogs, which would need to be a leash.

• The board approved a new sign for $1,498 that will say Lehigh Township to be put at the Berlinsville Park.

• The board accepted the resignation letter of police Officer Christopher Molchan.

• Police Chief John Henry reported, “We had 457 calls, five reportable accidents, 34 traffic violations issued, 12 arrests.” Citing the resignation of Molchan, he said, “I would like to start background checks on the rest of the current list of candidates we have.” The board agreed. The chief also reminded everyone about National Night Out on Aug. 4 at Berlinsville Park from 6-8 p.m.

• Fire Commissioner Rick Hildebrand reported, “We have 263 (calls) so far for the year, 45 accidents, 44 dwelling fires, 28 medical assists. We are still having issues with our recording software.”

• Zoning officer Roxann Colfer reported, “We had a hearing board appeal to Common Pleas court. Two more appeals this week. We discussed the noise code enforcement.”

• Public Works Director Frank Zamadics reported, “We did a lot of roadside mowing. Lehigh Township has 90 miles of road. Moving forward with tar and chip.” Resident John Knobloch said, “Frank, I want to thank you for always doing a great job for the township.” Zamadics said, “Thank you very much.”

• Solicitor David Backenstoe reported, “The data center ordinance is on final review for Lehigh Planning Commission and your planning commission. We should be able to have a hearing in August.”
