Tamaqua stayed alive in the District 18 Little League tournament with a victory over Anthracite/Lansford on Thursday.

Tamaqua-Anthracite/Lansford

Tamaqua scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 10-2 victory over Anthracite/Lansford.

Trailing 2-1, Tamaqua tied the game in the sixth inning. Jake Yenser doubled and scored on a single by Logan Deiter.

In the seventh, RBIs from Brayden Witkowski, Lucas Franco, Yenser and Damian Jazowski allowed the winners to pull away for the victory.

Gavan Hess gained the pitching win, walking one and striking out 10 in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Franco had three hits, two RBIs and scored twice for Tamaqua. Yenser, Deiter, Witkowski and Quinn Coleman all added two hits. Yenser also had two RBIs and scored a pair of runs.

For Anthracite, Chase McArdle had a hit and an RBI.

Tamaqua will now face Tri-County/Weatherly on Saturday. The loss eliminated Anthracite/Lansford.

Franklin Township-Valley West

Valley West broke a scoreless tie with eight runs in the third inning and went on to defeat Franklin Township, 12-0.

Caleb Aporick pitched a one-hit shutout for the winners, allowing four walks and striking out 10.

Mason Eckert hit a home run for Valley West, while Jayden Herman had four hits and scored two runs.

For Franklin, Brayden Ulshafer had his team’s only hit. Cody Snyder reached base three times, all on walks.

Valley West will face Valley East Tuesday in the winner’s bracket final, while Franklin Township travels to Jim Thorpe Saturday in a loser’s bracket contest.
