Carbon County commissioners approve grants, personnel

The Carbon County Commissioners discussed or acted on the following items:

• Approved an award of $60,640 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for the improvement of adult probation services through the reimbursement of eligible salaries of professional staff for the term July 1, through June 30, 2021.

• Reappointed Daniel Shoenberger of Palmerton to the Agricultural Preservation Board. The term expires April 10, 2024.

• Approved a proposal from A&W Plumbing of Nesquehoning for the installation of outdoor/indoor AC units, lineset and removal of old units in the Sheriff’s Office in the amount of $6,500.

• Authorize two applications to Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool for the 2020-2021 Loss Prevention Grant to purchase railing, connectors and cleats for the boat dock at the Mauch Chunk Lake Park, at a cost of $1,870; and for the removal of one tree and trimming of the remaining tree in front of the County Annex Building located at 76 Susquehanna St., at a cost of $1,400, utilizing the $920.08 balance of the grant.

• Approved applying for a Pocono Forest and Waters Conservation Landscape Mini-Grant Application funds for advancing nature and commerce in Carbon County in the amount of $8,800.

• Approved a Right of Way agreement with PPL Electric Utilities Corporation for temporary access road from the Carbon County Environmental Center entrance for construction and maintenance activities if necessary.

• Accepted a proposal from The Center for Leadership and Workforce Development of Lehigh Carbon Community College to provide employee training for 20 participants at a cost of $800. There are two sessions, one for parking personnel and one for the parks department personnel who have direct contact with visitors on a continuous basis.

• Commissioner Rocky Ahner commended Jill Geissinger, director of Children and Youth Services; and Rick Parsons, chief adult probation officer, for being an asset to Carbon County. He said they are working hard to correct issues within the departments.

• Commissioner Chris Lukasevich recognized Eloise Ahner, county administrator; and Christine LeClair, director of Veterans Affairs, for their completion of The NATO High Performance Leadership Academy. This program focused on oriented leadership skills for county professionals.

Personnel

• Retirement: Roberta A. Kennedy of Nesquehoning, LPN, corrections, effective April 23.

• Resignations: Joy L. Green of Nesquehoning, corrections officer, effective April 8; Lisa A. Herman of Jim Thorpe, administrative assistant/repository specialist, tax claim, effective April 23; Kelsey R. Ziegler of Andreas, lifeguard, effective April 19.

• Changes of status: Mark E. Janner of Nesquehoning, from seasonal park ranger I to lead seasonal park ranger I, effective April 24; Ashley M. Hummel of Jim Thorpe, from part-time cleaning person to cleaning person, effective April 26; Shannon Brookes of Orefield, from county caseworker I to county caseworker II, children and youth services, effective May 3.

• Court appointment: Michael A. Podskoch Jr. of Dallas, law clerk, effective April 22.

• Hire: Kristofer S. Campbell of Northampton, seasonal park ranger I, effective April 24.
