Carbon County to reopen senior centers

Carbon County seniors will soon be able to visit county senior centers again.

Anne Horrigan, senior center services director for the Area Agency on Aging, said Tuesday that the county plans to reopen the five centers on April 5.

The centers, located in Nesquehoning (Panther Valley), Jim Thorpe (Penn-Kidder), Palmerton, Lehighton and Weatherly, have been closed because of the pandemic since November.

Horrigan said the decision to reopen is because a lot of seniors who utilize the centers have either gotten vaccinated or are waiting to get vaccinated.

“We will continue to follow all guidelines to ensure the safety of our participants,” she said.
