Six people hurt in Polk Township crash

Six occupants of a vehicle that was involved in a head-on crash at 3:16 p.m. Feb. 9 on Interchange Road in Polk Township sustained “suspected minor injuries” according to state police at the Lehighton barracks.

They included Mary E. Everett, 33, of Kunkletown, and five juveniles, two aged 11 and the others being 8, 13 and 14, all from Kunkletown.

Police said the victims, with the exception of the 13-year-old, were transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, in the West End and Lehighton ambulances.

Police said the crash happened when Everett was driving a 2018 Dodge Caravan southbound on Interchange Road (Route 209) when she lost control of the vehicle.

It crossed the double yellow lines and hit a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado head-on. The driver of the Colorado, David J. Gearhart, 59, of Gilbert, was not Sinjured, police said.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.

They said Everett was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
