Man who fled police faces gun charges

Minersville Police are looking for Orwigsburg man who drove a Porsche more than 90 mph on the Pottsville Minersville Highway with a child in the car eluding the Minersville Police.

Police have a warrant for his arrest.

Ryan Edward Mills, 48, was pulled over by the Minersville Police Jan. 17 in the borough because of improper window tinting on a car he was borrowing. Officer Issac Souchak asked for license, registration and proof of insurance, which Mills did not provide. Mills identified himself as Rayfond Mills, a cousin. Mills became nervous during the interaction and began to adjust an object nearby. Guns were later found in the vehicle.

Souchak ordered Mills out of the car whereby he promptly fled towards Pottsville “at a high rate of speed exceeding 90 mph, swerving between cars at a close distance and switching from lane to lane,” documents show.

Police lost sight of the vehicle near the city limit.

The car was later found across from 213 N. George St. in the city. Video footage shows the child, Mills said was his son, taken out of the car.

Police searched the car after obtaining a search warrant and found receipts with Mills’ name, a child’s drawing, a Calico Liberty III 9mm handgun, an H&R 12 gauge shotgun, two magazines and ammunition, which police confiscated.

Mills was identified as the driver after a search of a driver’s license database. The search also found he is wanted on a parole violation and is prohibited from possessing a firearm, police said.

Police went to the Orwigsburg home, but the resident wasn’t helpful. The owner of the car went to the police after learning the car was impounded. He told police Mills borrowed the car to pickup his son.

Mills is charged with two counts each of possessing a firearm when prohibited, and recklessly endangering another person, and one count each of endangering the welfare of children, fleeing or attempting to elude and officer, false identification to an officer and reckless driving. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing in Magisterial District Judge David Plachko’s courtroom.
