Borough removes utility penalties on December billing due to USPS delay

Lehighton has agreed to remove utility penalties on the December billing.

On a 6-0 vote, borough council on Monday agreed to the measure due to the United States Postal Service delay. Councilman Darryl Arner was absent.

Borough Manager Nicole Beckett told council the situation has been a disaster.

“We are having a huge problem with people not getting their December bills,” Beckett said. “It’s a complete nightmare.”

The borough posted a notice on its Facebook page Monday morning:

“All Utility Bills had been mailed on time. We have been made aware there are major delays within USPS. Your utility bill can be accessed online with your account number and PIN located on any of your bills. Please look up account information online when possible - our utility office is short staffed and we are unable to fulfill all requests.

“Payments can be made online or by dropping payment at the drop box on the North St. side of Borough Hall. Please make sure to include payment stub or account number with payment.
