Man shoves elderly woman, steals her dog

A Washington Township man has been charged after he shoved an elderly woman and snatched her dog in Slatington.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman William Borst of the Slatington Borough Police Department in the case against Brandon Lloyd:

At 6:33 a.m. Nov. 12, Borst was dispatched to the area of 550 Main Street for the report of a man following and harassing an elderly female who was walking her black Labrador retriever.

While en route, Borst was advised via dispatch that they had received several calls saying that the man, Lloyd, 23, had taken the dog from the woman and was running away.

Lloyd, of Furnace Road, was described as a tall, thin man wearing a white jacket and bluejeans.

Borst talked to the woman who said that the man approached her and began insisting that her dog belonged to him.

The victim said that Lloyd pushed her and then took her dog and ran away.

Borst located Lloyd at the intersection of Willow Avenue and Dowell Street.

Borst got of his patrol vehicle. Lloyd asked, “Is this about the dog?”

Borst ordered Lloyd to turn around and place his hands behind his back.

Lloyd resisted Borst’s attempts to take him into custody.

Lloyd pulled away from Borst, at which time Borst took control of Lloyd’s arm, causing both men to fall onto the pavement.

Slatington Detective Timothy Wagner arrived to assist but Lloyd continued to physically resist both officers.

After a struggle, officers were able to place Lloyd into handcuffs, and while escorting Lloyd to Borst’s patrol vehicle, Borst observed that Lloyd was speaking very quickly, sometimes to himself.

Borst observed that Lloyd appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Borst located the dog on the front porch of a residence on Willow Avenue, and the dog was reunited with its owner.

Lloyd was transported to police headquarters before ultimately being transported to the Lehigh County Central Booking Center for processing.

Lloyd faces charges of robbery and resisting arrest or other law enforcement.

Bail has been set at $25,000 straight, and he is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Dec. 4 in Lehigh County Central Court in Allentown.
