West Penn receives grants for pair of 2021 projects

The West Penn Township supervisors meeting was held on Monday night, and good news came from the road department. Roadmaster Clint Schock informed the board of major grants for a pair of 2021 projects.

A project on Laurel Lane will cost of $117,000, but the township will receive a grant of over $78,000. The Quarry Road project will receive a grant of $54,922, nearly cutting the cost in half. The total payback through grants for both projects is over $130,000.

Police report

• October’s police report included 7,333 miles patrolled, 325 total calls answered and 199 traffic citations. Over $7,000 of money was brought in via fines, impounds, etc.

• The trick-or-treat night was “successful,” but there was a low turnout.

• Two township part-time officers are currently in training.

• Body cameras are set up and in service.

Fire co. report

• Nineteen calls were answered.

• The monthly breakfast is scheduled for Nov. 8, pickup only.

• The monthly meeting is set for Nov. 11.

Ambulance report

• September: 32 calls

• October: 34 calls

• 311 calls to date this year

Park update

Supervisor Glenn Hummel said that the first phase of electrical is finished at Morgan Park.

“The pavilion is all wired and ready to go,” Hummel said. “It could be rented as early as the spring.”
