St. Luke’s donates 6 AEDs to Pleasant Valley schools

The Pleasant Valley School District received a donation of six automated external defibrillators from St. Luke’s University Health Network. The device is used to revive someone who has had a heart attack.

“We are grateful that if we need to save a life, we now know we can,” said Superintendent Lee Lesisko.

The school district plans to place two of the devices at the stadium and one at the Polk Elementary building. The middle school administration will decide where the other three devices will go.

Athletic Director Thomas Toth said one of them may go out to the baseball field.

Prior to the donation, the school district already had an AED at each of the school buildings and the administrative building.

“It increases our safety for the school district and the students,” Lesisko said.

St. Luke’s will service the devices. Batteries and pads need to be replaced after a while. The devices actually make a noise if they need service, Toth said.

“We’re very appreciative that St. Luke’s was able to provide this and thankful to them for the work they’re doing so far,” Lesisko said.

St. Luke’s provides a group of professionals including an athletic trainer and sports performance coaches that work with the district’s athletes, as well as programs for the schools.
