Reports: Toomey won’t seek re-election or run for governor

Numerous reports say U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey will announce Monday that he is not seeking re-election for office or running for the office of Pennsylvania governor.

Toomey, of Lehigh County, has scheduled a news conference for 10 a.m. Monday.

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting he will serve out his current Senate term, which ends in 2023.

Toomey’s office on Sunday neither confirmed nor denied the senator’s plans.

Toomey was elected to the U.S. House in 1998 and served three terms. In 2010 he defeated U.S.-Rep Joe Sestak to win the Senate seat. He was re-elected in 2016.
