Polk plans rededication of veterans memorial

Calling all veterans or active military.

The Polk Township Veterans’ Memorial Commission is planning a rededication of the township’s Veterans’ Memorial.

“We want to add plaques with the names of Polk Township veterans from all U.S. conflicts,” said Connie Haydt, a member of the Veterans’ Memorial Commission.

Currently the commission has all the names of Polk Township members who served in WWII, but the goal is to is to include all veterans and active military who have ever lived in Polk Township and served in other U.S. conflicts.

“This includes any veteran that was a member of your family and was from Polk Township,” Haydt said.

How to have a loved one or yourself included:

“The Polk Township Memorial Commission will have a table at the Polk Township Fire Hall on Election Day, and we will be collecting information for plaques that day,” she said.

You can also stop in at the Polk Township office located on Polk Township Road with your information or email your information to polktwpmemorial@gmail.com.

“We want to make sure everyone is recognized for their service,” Haydt said.
