Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 28

Jim Thorpe’s Aiden Clements scored four goals Monday to lead his team to a boys soccer win, while Palmerton received hat tricks from two players - Megan Serfass and Molly Mihalko - that allowed the Blue Bombers to roll to a field hockey victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Aiden Clements scored four goals in the first half to help power Jim Thorpe to a 7-0 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Cris Condly contributed a pair of goals, while Jack Morris finished with five assists.

The Olympians, now 3-2-1 in the league, also received a goal from Andrea Mazella, and assists from Dawson Meckes and Clements.

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

Mike Shlanta accounted for both Tamaqua goals as the Blue Raiders posted a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Pine Grove.

After a scoreless first half, Shlanta gave his team a 1-0 lead off a feed from Ian Davis. Derrick Boyer tied the contest for the Cardinals, but Shlanta tallied again for the game-winner. The Raiders’ Tyler Steigerwalt assisted on the winning goal.

Winning keeper Jon Ulicney made five saves for Tamaqua, who improved to 4-2 in the league.

The Raiders won the JV contest, 2-1.

Schuy. Haven-Lehighton

Kaede Fessler’s second-half goal allowed Schuylkill Haven to pull out a 3-2 Schuylkill League victory over host Lehighton.

The Indians’ Carter Strauss and Matt Sofranko both tallied in the first half to give their team a 2-1 lead, but Michael McGoey tied the contest late in the first half before Fessler won it in the second.

AJ Light and Logan Lucas both had assists for Lehighton, which dropped to 1-4-1 in the league.

GIRLS SOCCER

Palmerton-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe posted its third straight victory, defeating Palmerton 3-0 in a non-league contest.

Lauren LeKites got the Olympians on the board in the first half, scoring off a feed from Lydia Wallace.

Nicole Carroll converted on a penalty kick in the second half to extend the margin, while Wallace closed out the scoring with a goal.

Thorpe keeper Kate Bos made 11 saves, while the Bombers’ Megan Green stopped seven shots.

Lehighton-Northern Lehigh

Lehighton and Northern Lehigh battled to a 1-1 non-league double overtime tie.

Shaina Mazzocca scored for the Bulldogs, who outshot the Indians by a 32-14 margin.

Scoring for Lehighton was Abby Meckes.

Saucon Vy.-No.Lehigh

In a match from Saturday, Northern Lehigh gained a 4-0 Colonial League win over Saucon Valley.

Shaina Mazzocca scored three goals for the Bulldogs, while Emily Hunsicker added a goal and an assist.

The winners, who held a 13-8 advantage in shots, also received an assist from Kaylee Wilk.

FIELD HOCKEY

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

Molly Mihalko and Megan Serfass both had hat tricks in leading Palmerton to a lopsided 11-0 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Serfass scored twice in the first quarter as the Blue Bombers raced to a 4-0 lead. Mihalko tallied in the second quarter as the winners held a 6-0 advantage at halftime.

The winners, who improved to 3-2 in the league, also received a pair of goals from Analise Recker. Emily Baumgardt added a goal and an assist, while other goals came from Sydney Frantz and Kelsey Balliet.

Palmerton, which had 29 shots in the contest, gained assists from Emma Christman, Kira Hauser and Jillian Frank.

Bangor-Northern Lehigh

Bangor gained a 5-0 Colonial League shutout win over Northern Lehigh.

The Slaters received two goals apiece from Kaylee Holland and Mylania Shipp.

Abbie Buck accounted for the other Bangor tally.

VOLLEYBALL

Schuylkill Haven-Lehighton

Lehighton cruised to a 25-11, 25-10, 25-11 Schuylkill League win over Schuylkill Haven.

Alexis Soloman had seven kills, five aces and four blocks for the Indians, which improved their league mark to 3-3. Madelyn Sofranko contributed 19 assists and seven aces, while Hailey Miller added five kills and five aces.

The winners also received four kills and three aces from Megan Aaron, along with three kills and three aces from Madilynn Stoffey.

Marian-Williams Valley

Marian swept past Williams Valley in Schuylkill League action, 25-6, 25-21, 25-9.

Alivia Karchner had 15 kills, four aces and three digs for the Fillies, now 5-0 in league action. Ashlyn Klitsch collected 24 assists and six digs, while Becca Dzuranin added five kills and eight digs.

The winners also received four kills and four blocks from Kelly Sullivan, along with four kills and five digs from Tat Zeleniak.

Panther Valley-Pottsville

Panther Valley rallied from a two-set deficit, only to fall in the fifth set to Pottsville.

The Crimson Tide ended up with a 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 23-25, 15-8 Schuylkill League victory.

Erika Dubosky collected 27 kills, 14 digs, three assists and two aces for the Panthers, who fell to 3-2 in the league. PV also received 58 digs from Alexis Cooper, and 29 assists from Madison Heckman.

The Panthers won the JV match in two sets.

Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe took Pine Grove to a fifth set, but the Cardinals narrowly pulled out a 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 15-13 Schuylkill League victory.

Brandy Montemuro led the Olympians with 18 kills, 18 assists and three aces. Autumn Snyder collected nine kills and three blocks, while Kristin Pompa and Alexandra Ramey chipped in with seven and six kills, respectively.

Thorpe, which fell to 4-3 in the league, also received 22 assists from Andi Hoherchak, while Abigail McGinley led the team in digs.

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua

Tamaqua dropped a 25-13, 25-12, 25-16 Schuylkill League decision to visiting North Schuylkill.

The Blue Raiders, now 1-5 in the league, received five kills and two blocks from Leah Mateyak.

FALL BASEBALL

FT Mud Dawgs-Emmaus

The Franklin Township Mud Dawgs rallied from an early deficit to gain an 11-3 victory over Emmaus.

The Dawgs trailed 3-0 after three innings, but took the lead with a four-run fourth frame. Aiden Solt, Jayse Lawrence and Konner Nalesnik all had run-scoring singles in the inning.

Cody Snyder earned the pitching win, allowing two hits and striking out five during his six innings of work.

FT also received a double and two runs scored from Carter Bellis.
