Woman charged with attempting to elude police

A Slatington woman has been charged with attempting to elude police earlier this month.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Allan McMurray of the Pennsylvania State Police, Fogelsville barracks in the case against Sara Torres-Rivera:

On Sept. 13, Berks County Radio notified the State Police at Fogelsville barracks of a pursuit entering Lehigh County via Route 222 North involving a municipal police unit and a motorcycle. The pursuit was terminated at the county line.

While investigating a group of about seven motorcycles on 222 North, McMurray observed a sole black motorcycle sport bike on 222 North at South Krocks Road, Lower Macungie Township, in the left lane stopped for traffic.

McMurray informed two other marked police units on the right shoulder of the motorcycle as the traffic signal turned green, and three marked patrol units activated their emergency lights and sirens on 222 North just north of South Krocks Road.

The motorcycle, operated by Torres-Rivera, 33, failed to yield to either of the three patrol units.

Two more marked state police patrol units activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the motorcycle over, but for about 2.65 miles on 222 North and Hamilton Boulevard, the motorcycle failed to stop.

The motorcycle conducted multiple lanes changes without using a turn signal; drove in and out of the two travel lanes; attempted to merge onto Interstate 78 East, but at the last minute cut back onto Hamilton Boulevard and did not stop for a steady red signal on Hamilton Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue.

After about 2.65 miles, the motorcycle, identified as a 2020 Black Honda CBR 500R, was able to be stopped.

During the pursuit, traffic conditions were light with the exception of the approach to steady traffic signals, and speeds varied between 35 and 50 mph, but never exceeded such, and weather/roadway conditions were normal.

A query of Torres-Rivera’s Pennsylvania Operator’s License was conducted and showed that she did not have an active “M” classification for her Operator’s License.

Torres-Rivera was processed at State Police Fogelsville and released.

Torres-Rivera faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police officer; classes of licenses; traffic-control signals; turning movements and required signals; and careless driving.

She is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 21 before District Judge Michael J. Faulkner of Allentown.
