Lansford Council

Lansford Borough Council announced the following business last week:

• Work on the pool is scheduled to begin next week. At the board meeting on Wednesday, Councilman Martin Ditsky recognized the teenagers who painted the pool and the restaurants that donated food to the National Honors Society students from Panther Valley. Coal Miners Pub and Cabrera’s donated food to the students involved.

• Two meetings took place with the borough engineer regarding the downtown streetlight project. The wiring for holiday lights on the streetlight poles were discussed and a follow-up meeting with PPL has been requested to work out the issue.

• Coaldale and Lansford received a grant to replace self-contained breathing apparatuses and the fire companies of the two boroughs just need to split 5% of the cost.

• Ditsky said he was still concerned about the power of the water authority and President Bruce Markovich said there was not much the borough could do to address the issue without Coaldale’s help. Coaldale is still yet to respond to a letter sent to them months ago asking to meet to discuss the authority. President of Coaldale’s council Angela Krapf confirmed at a Coaldale meeting that she did receive the letter and had plans to respond.

• A meeting has been set for Oct. 3 to further discuss the 400 E. Snyder Ave. Sewer Project. Streets that have already been double paved include the 100 block on West Bertsch Street, 100 W. Kline, front of 700 to 400 block, the intersection of Jones and Bertsch, East Street, and Patterson to Bertsch.

• The borough will purchase a credit card reader for the borough office as many residents request to pay their bills with their card. The cost is $195 and comes with a one-year warranty.
