Lansford plans for changes to Kennedy Park

Lansford borough council discussed the leftover LSA Downtown Project grant money and estimated there to be anywhere from $50,000 to $60,000 in the account to be used. Members of the board said they are considering using the leftover money for improvements in Kennedy Park.

Board member Martin Ditsky said Kennedy Park is designated as a quiet park and brought to attention the music that plays at the park at times. Vice President Bob Silver said they’ll have to look into what the ordinance is regarding the music so the township can follow the ordinance in place.

“There are a lot of ordinances that need to be changed,” Lansford Mayor Michele Bartek said.

Work on the gazebo in Kennedy Park is scheduled to begin in two weeks and will be worked on by BJ Berk.

Council President Bruce Markovich said the code company requested response regarding around 100 ordinances that need to be approved or dismissed. Due to other borough matters that need attention, Markovich said he’d take a look at all of them after the first day of 2021.

The board also discussed paving that needs to be done in the walkway of Ashton Park from Parkway to Phillips Street. Last Sunday Markovich and member William Chuma went to Ashton Park to look at the walkway, and the plan is to replace the pavement that is there.

Silver said he was hesitant in going forward with the pavement because he believed there to be an ordinance that prevents them from working on sidewalks with specific materials. He says that Lansford has sidewalks and not walkways.

Chuma said he looked into the definition of a walkway, and due to the pavement not being street side, it is referred to as a walkway, which will allow the town to repave the space. Ditsky said he wants the motion to go forward because he wants to see the job get done.

The plan for improvements will move forward under the assumption that the space in Ashton Walk is a walkway.

Handicap spaces are intended to be placed there so it will be paved in a way to allow for the spaces to be created later.
