Thursday virus update: 807 positives bring Pa. total to 116,521

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of midnight that there are 807 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 116,521.

Allegheny County is reporting an increase of 100 cases and Philadelphia is reporting an increase of 112 cases.

The number of tests administered within the last seven days between July 30 and Aug. 5 is 148,132 with 5,496 positive cases. There were 21,590 test results reported to the department through 10 p.m., August 5. These results represent the total number of tests administered.

There are 7,282 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 38 new deaths reported.

There are 643 patients who have a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure, which are considered probable cases and not confirmed cases. There are 1,183,730 patients who have tested negative to date. Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:

1% are ages 0-4;

1% are ages 5-12;

3% are ages 13-18;

9% are ages 19-24;

Nearly 38% are ages 25-49;

Nearly 23% are ages 50-64; and

24% are ages 65 or older.

Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

The department is seeing significant increases in the number of COVID-19 cases among younger age groups, particularly 19 to 24-year-olds.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 19,799 resident cases of COVID-19, and 4,071 cases among employees, for a total of 23,870 at 870 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of our total deaths, 4,943 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. A county breakdown can be found here.

Approximately 8,522 of our total cases are among health care workers.

Carbon County has three additional cases, bringing the total to 367, with 28 deaths.

In Lehigh County, there are 14 new cases for a total of 4,901. There is one additional death for a total of 336.

Luzerne County is reporting 3,399 cases, an increase of 22. There is an additional death for a total of 184.

In Monroe there are three new cases, bringing the total to 1,614, with 124 deaths.

Northampton County logged 11 new cases, bringing the total to 3,902. One additional death is reported for a total of 292.

Schuylkill County had t10 new cases. The total is 907, with one additional death for a total of 50.
