Motorcycle run fundraiser set for Saturday

A bike run fundraiser is set to start in Nesquehoning on Saturday.

Mady’s first Ride for Junior Diabetes will meet at 23 Tonoli Road and travel to Knoebels Amusement Park throughout the morning.

Mady’s mother, Jenn Reynolds, said Mady was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last November at age 3.

“She was in and out of the hospital with different things, trying to find the right medicine and pumps and all of that to see what would be best for her.”

Mady is now 4 years old and doing well. However, there are many daily challenges that she faces with her family.

“I’m fortunate that I’m able to have insurance through my (school) district and I also have secondary through the state,” Reynolds said. “We’re finding with having double insurance, it still doesn’t pay for everything. I still have medical bills and there are still other bills out there as far as travel expenses, because there’s nothing in Carbon County that helps out with anything as far as diabetes. You can go for your family doctor, but if you need to go to an endocrinologist, you need to go to Lehigh Valley or Wilkes-Barre.”

At the ride’s destination, a gathering will be held to wrap up the event. Reynolds said Knoebels was extremely generous and willing to help out.

“Knoebels gave us a pavilion, a cooler and a grill. They donated all of that for us. There will be food for the riders and there will be a 50/50 raffle. People have donated a ton on food as well.”

At the Knoebels pavilion, Mady and her family will also donate items of need to two Jim Thorpe Area School District students who also have Type 1 diabetes, said Reynolds, who works for the Jim Thorpe Area School District.

“It’s a small community, my school district spread the word. The support and everyone coming together has been amazing.”

Registration in Nesquehoning will begin at 8 a.m. For more information, email newhorkmetts@yahoo.com.
