Wednesday update: Pa. adds 495 virus cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed that as of midnight Wednesday there are 495 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 83,191.

There are 6,515 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 54 new deaths.

Carbon County has 271 cases, an increase of three, and has added one more death for a total of 25.

In Lehigh County, there are 21 new cases, bringing the count to 4,130. Deaths have increased by three for 284.

Luzerne County has reported one more case, for a total of 2,874. Deaths increased by one for a total of 173.

In Monroe County, five new cases bring the total to 1,384. Deaths remain at 108.

Northampton County has 3,339 cases, an increase of 12, with four more deaths for a total of 259.

Schuylkill County is reporting 721 cases, an increase of two. Deaths remain at 43.

There are 632 patients who have a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure, which are considered probable cases and not confirmed cases. There are 608,217 patients who have tested negative to date. Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:

Nearly 1% are ages 0-4;

1% are ages 5-12;

2% are ages 13-18;

Nearly 7% are ages 19-24;

Nearly 37% are ages 25-49;

Nearly 25% are ages 50-64; and

Nearly 28% are ages 65 or older.

Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 17,394 resident cases of COVID-19, and 3,103 cases among employees, for a total of 20,497 at 671 distinct facilities in 49 counties. Out of our total deaths, 4,467 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Approximately 6,303 of our total cases are in health care workers.
