Outgoing student representative lauded for her achievements
A highly decorated student representative was recently lauded for her achievements in the Northern Lehigh School District.
Superintendent Matthew J. Link used a portion of his report during a school board meeting earlier this month to acknowledge senior Madison Hoffman.
Link noted that the board presented Hoffman, who attended her final meeting as a student representative to the board, with a gift as a token of its appreciation.
“Madison, I have truly loved getting to know you over the past few years,” Link said. “I’m really proud of everything you have accomplished.”
Hoffman thanked the board for the opportunity.
“Being able to be a student school board representative for the last two years has really enlightened me to what the school board does for us,” Hoffman said. “Before this, I of course knew that they made decisions for the school, and now I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into each one of those decisions, as I have seen the budget that stretches out over several years into the future.”
Hoffman added, “It has kept me engaged in everything that is happening within the district, not just at the high school level.
“I have been very appreciative of the support from everyone, and enjoyed talking with staff before and after meetings and catching up with old teachers. It has meant so much to me that (teacher) Mrs. (Patty) Jones suggested that I should apply for this position and that I could prove myself as a responsible student.”
Hoffman said her time as a student rep proved to be an invaluable experience.
“I believe that being a student school board representative, on top of everything else that I am involved with, is why I got a full tuition leadership scholarship at DeSales University,” she said. “DeSales is my dream school, and it is because of this position that I get the chance to go to said school.”
Hoffman said she will be majoring in TV Film, and minoring in Digital Media, to pursue a career in editing “and maybe even animation if I get good enough at it.
“Northern Lehigh has been such an exciting journey for me, and I’m excited to see what journeys lay ahead of me,” she said. “I would again like to thank everyone for this opportunity, and wish you all the best.”
