Raising the House takes annual race online

A 5K scheduled for the end of March will take place next month - online.

Raising the House’s seventh annual race was originally scheduled for March 28. It was moved to June 13 due to coronavirus, but the ongoing pandemic affected that in-person event, too.

Now, the organization is making its race a virtual one. Racers will be allowed to run on their own schedule between June 12, 13 and 14. They can also submit their times online.

Those who haven’t registered have until May 14 to guarantee a race bag.

The annual race is hosted each spring and dedicated to the memory of Blaine House, a Towamensing teacher who died in 2013. Raising the House was formed a year after House’s death; its aim is to help local students in need.

“Even though we cannot physically be together on race day, we hope we can all come together in spirit to honor Blaine House’s memory,” a news release from Raising the House states.

“We are thankful for the outpour of support we’ve had from community members and hope the funds from our biggest fundraiser of the year can help us sustain our mission of providing assistance to families in the Palmerton area.”
