Lehighton’s Downtown Summer Farmers Market will once again be held out of the Lower Park.
Borough council on an 8-0 vote on Monday agreed to permit the market to be held there from 9 a.m. to noon May 16, with social distancing restrictions in place.
Councilwoman Lisa Perry said she had no problem with having the Downtown Summer Farmers Market in the Lower Park due to its size, but suggested facing the vendors further apart to give patrons better social distancing.
Councilman Donnie Rehrig then suggested using both sides of the street.
Councilman Ryan Saunders said there’s a webinar today with the guidelines from the Governor’s Office or the Department of Agriculture.
Perry asked if the event will just be for farmer goods only, to which Saunders said it would, and that there would be no special events.
Rehrig said he believes it will be very beneficial to the Hi-Rise residents.
But before then, the Lehighton Downtown Winter Farmers Market will once again be held from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday at the Hofford Mill.
Saunders said the social restrictions worked really well when the Lehighton Downtown Winter Farmers Market shifted from Lehighton’s Lower Park to the Hofford Mill in Weissport on April 25.
“It was very well-executed,” Saunders said. “And I’ll be honest with you, it couldn’t have gone any smoother.”
Saunders said there was a “lot of excitement from the vendors,” adding that the majority of them sold out within less than an hour.
Patrons in attendance were required to wear masks and practice social distancing, which they will once again be required to do.
