Kidder Township Police busy with checking rentals

Kidder Township has a lot of short-term rental properties, especially around Lake Harmony. With the COVID-19 crisis, these short-term rentals are mostly full, which has led to local concerns, and complaint calls to the township.

Kidder’s police have had “lot of calls,” according to police chief Matt Kuzma. His department has been out on a lot of investigations - as many as 20 in one day. “Everyone is complying … showing long-term leases” (so far).

The department is also looking at construction that’s continuing, making visits to check on waiver paperwork.

Kuzma added that his department is “working to ease the public’s minds” during the stay-at-home order and other state government edicts. He thanked the public and businesses who have donated supplies and food, with a special thanks to Walmart in Lehighton.

New uniforms are expected to arrive soon. New protective vests are on order, but had not arrived as of the meeting.

At the Kidder supervisors meeting April 16, Supervisors’ Chairman Thomas Bradley called the members of the Kidder Police department “heroes” for the work they are doing. “We commend all of you.”
