Monroe commissioners promotes awareness of sex assault

The Monroe County Commissioners are promoting awareness of sexual assault since Stroudsburg’s scheduled Take Back the Night Walk had to be canceled because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The event, scheduled for April 16, was a march from Courthouse Square to East Stroudsburg University in solidarity.

The pandemic sweeping the nation has taken the focus of the public’s attention, while those who are vulnerable to abusive relationships at home are now at heightened levels of risk due to stay-at-home directives.

“We can’t forget that April is sexual assault awareness month, and we cannot forget about those in dire need and support. That’s the kind of stuff we need to keep remembering as well” Commissioners’ Chairwoman Sharon Laverdure.

The Take Back the Night Walk is orchestrated in partnership by Women’s Resources of Monroe County Inc. and East Stroudsburg University. The event is set to be rescheduled.

Women’s Resources of Monroe County offers free and confidential guidance in the form of counseling, advocacy and shelter. Services are available for children, women and men experiencing domestic and sexual violence. For information, call 570-421-4200.
